(myFOXDetroit.com Staff Reports) – Friends, family and fellow cyclists gathered Monday to ride and remember the life of Kevin Degen, a disabled cyclist who raised thousands of dollars for charities and inspired a countless amount of others.
Degen, 52, died suddenly Tuesday.
The Detroit Free Press reports Degen was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at birth, and doctors held out little hope that he would lead a normal life. But the bike his parents bought him became his ticket to freedom.
FOX 2’s Al Allen reports Degen’s rides eventually raised nearly $200,000 for a number of organizations, including the Make-a-Wish Foundation of Michigan .
